What this statement means is to never break a promise once you promise. For example, Abraham Lincoln promised his mother before she had passed away that he will never drink whiskey or use any tobacco products. He kept his promise even though he had the temptation of trying it. Throughout his whole lifetime he kept his promise to his mother. Another example is a teacher. This teacher named Weddle made a promise on the year 2001 that he wont trim or shave his facial hair until bin laden was captured or dead. He kept his promise for about 7 whole years 3,454 days. He would see the news everyday to see if they had captured him or to see  if he was dead but he didn't have luck. He did want to shave his beard off at some point but he didn't because he had promise no too. On May 1, 2011 he saw that ban laden was captured or dead not really sure and by the next morning he shaved all his beard off. When you make a promise keep it dont break it.
